RMEF My ElkNet News Events Projects People Resources
Contribute to ElkNet

ElkNet is driven by volunteers, and we can't succeed without your input. If you have something you think belongs on this site, please read this entire page and follow the directions contained here. We are better able to serve you and get your information on the site quickly if you pay careful attention to these directions.

What kinds of things can I submit?

We take submissions for the following types of information:

  • News items about the RMEF, wildlife, conservation, and mission-related information.
  • Non-partisan legislative updates.
  • Event announcements (including BGB announcements).
  • Project information and data.
  • Volunteer project information.
  • Updated contact information for key volunteers.
  • State, regional, and national RMEF publications.
  • Links to other RMEF sites.
  • Photographs (photographs have special requirements, see below).

What kinds of things do you not allow?

We do not allow:

  • Partisan legislative updates.
  • Advertisements and other commercial material.
  • Information about other regions (unless it is of national significance).
  • Items on topics including but not limited to: gun control and 2nd amendment rights, Native American hunting rights, classified advertising (see the Merchandise Exchange), personal anecdotes, partisan political items.

What if my item doesn't fall into one of these categories?

If your item isn't covered by the above lists, please go ahead and submit it anyways. We will evaluate it and decide if it is appropriate for posting. In evaluating items, generally we apply the "Mission Test": if the item is related to the RMEF and the mission, it passes.

Are there special formatting requirements for information?

Yes. The requirements are fairly straightforward. Basically, we ask that you submit your information in text format. What this means is you generally cannot submit documents created with programs such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel. There are some exceptions. The list below shows the various types of information we accept and how we want the information formatted.

  • News items: Can be either text format or word processor format (such as Microsoft Word). We DO NOT take documents written in Microsoft Works, Microsoft Excel, or WordPerfect. Adobe Acrobat (PDF) documents are OK, provided you also include a text description to accompany the document.
  • Event announcements: Must be text format. Please include as much information as you can about the event. See our Event Listings for a list of information we can display. You MUST include a firm date or your event will NOT be posted.
  • Project and volunteer project information: Same requirements as news items above.
  • Contact information: Must be text format. Please see the key volunteer listing for a list of the information we ask for. All the fields are optional, except first and last name.
  • Publications: You must either convert your publication to an HTML document or an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document. We DO NOT distribute Word or Publisher documents. Both of these programs have the ability to save your documents as HTML documents. We can help you with document conversion for publications if you require it.
  • Links: Please provide the full URL to the site, a title, and a short (25 words or less) description of the link.
  • Photographs: We only accept electronic images. Your photos must be in JPEG format, at least 200x200 pixels in size, and at have a bit depth of at least 16 bits. It is best to submit the largest and highest-quality file you have, as we will size it to the size we require.

Where do I send my information once I have it assembled?

Your information should be sent to your state webmaster. If you do not know who your state webmaster is, please see the volunteer directory. If your state webmaster is not listed, you may send it to the regional webmaster, Ken Kajita.

When e-mailing information, please prefix the subject line of your e-mail with "ElkNet Submission:" and a brief description of the item you are submitting.

How long after I send my information will it be posted?

Depending on the circumstances, usually your item will be posted within 72 hours. However, it can occasionally take up to a week or more to post some information. Your item will be posted faster if you follow the formatting requirements above. We generally will e-mail you a confirmation that your item has been posted.

I have spotted an error in a piece of information on this site.

If you think you have found an error, either e-mail your state webmaster or regional webmaster with information about the error. It really helps if you submit the full URL to the item in question with your e-mail.

How can I get involved working on the ElkNet site?

From time to time, we have various openings for volunteers to work on the ElkNet site. It is best to contact either your state chair or the regional webmaster if you are interested.
